“We will talk about surprises. (Netanyahu) should expect (…) surprises from us,” Nasrallah said in a speech
Its head of the powerful organization Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah threatened today Friday with “surprises” in Israel after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has “surprising plans” to deal with the pro-Iranian, Lebanese group.
“We will talk about surprises. (Netanyahu) should expect (…) surprises from us,” Nasrallah said in a speech broadcast live on television.
Hezbollah launches daily attacks against Israel since the start of the war in Gaza, to support its ally, the Palestinian Hamas. The Israeli military responds with strikes in Lebanon, targeting members of Hezbollah. “We have killed hundreds of Hezbollah operatives,” Netanyahu claimed on Thursday. “We have detailed plans, significant, even unpredictable” for this front in northern Israel, he added.
“I would like to say to Netanyahu (…) and the government of the enemy that we have studied and weighed all the possibilities, all the scenarios that he can resort to,” Hassan Nasrallah said today. He said Hamas and Iran’s other allies in the region were the ones who “surprised” Israel, a country that “has the strongest military and the strongest intelligence services in the region.”
“Hamas took you by surprise” with the attack on Israeli soil on October 7 and Hezbollah “surprised you by opening” the Lebanese front the next day, he continued. ‘Yemen caught you by surprise’ as Houthi rebels launch attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea. “Iraq surprised you, as did Iran, when you bombed its consulate” in Damascus, Nasrallah said, speaking at a memorial service for Iranian President Ebrahim Raishi, who was killed Sunday when his helicopter crashed.
“We wish the war would stop at any moment. But if (Netanyahu) is determined to go to war, he will lead his country to destruction,” he warned.
At least 430 people have been killed by Israeli strikes in Lebanon over the past seven months. 279 were Hezbollah fighters and at least 82 were civilians, according to an AFP tally. On the Israeli side, 14 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed.
In recent days, Hezbollah has intensified its attacks against military positions in northern Israel, using drones and new types of weapons.
