Trucks with humanitarian aid started entering the Gaza Strip from Egypt, through the Israeli Kerem Shalom Passaccording to the Al-Qahera News network, which is close to the Egyptian intelligence services.

About 200 trucksincluding four tankers, are expected to enter Gaza today through the Kerem Shalom crossing, Khalid Zaged, head of the Egyptian Red Crescent Movement in North Sinai, told Reuters.

The Al Qahera News network posted a video on social media in which it said trucks with humanitarian aid could be seen crossing the pass. The network did not say how many trucks had passed the checkpoint, but said “four tankers” had already passed and were heading to hospitals.

The Rafah border crossing, which was the main entry point for humanitarian aid and trade supplies to Gaza, has been closed for about three weeks since Israel took control of the Palestinian side of the crossing, escalating its military attack on the area on May 6.

With the Rafah crossing closed, some of the food supplies destined for Gaza have begun to rot.

Egypt and the US agreed on May 24 to send aid through the nearby Israeli Kerem Shalom crossing until legal procedures are completed to reopen the Rafah crossing from the Palestinian side, the Egyptian presidency said.
