Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Siti as well as the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Tunisia will travel to China within the week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced today.

From May 28 to June 1, Arab leaders will visit Beijing and attend “the opening ceremony of the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum,” Chinese diplomatic spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

The delegation is expected to include the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa, Tunisian President Kais Zagend and the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zagend al Nahyan.

Arab leaders are expected in the Asian giant as China seeks a mediating role in Israel’s war with Hamas.

China has historically supported the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an “international peace summit” to end the war.

In November, Beijing hosted talks by the foreign ministers of the Palestinian Authority, Indonesia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to seek a “de-escalation” of the violence.
