More than 1,300 people will have to leave their homes in the Meckenbeuren region of Baden-Württemberg, while the district of Gunzburg in Bavaria has been declared a “state of emergency” due to heavy rain and the threat of flooding.

Events planned for the weekend, especially outdoor ones, have already been suspended.

Evacuations are already underway at campsites and recreation areas on the Gudz, Kamel and Mindel rivers, while in the neighboring city of Leibheim, waterworks on the Danube have been shut down for safety reasons. Water is being temporarily supplied by another power plant, but citizens have been advised to stock up on bottled water as drinking water supplies may be temporarily interrupted.
Crews of the federal technical assistance service have already been deployed in the area.
In Baden-Württemberg, 1,300 people living near Lake Constance (Bodensee) are being asked to evacuate their homes due to the serious risk of flooding in the Süssen River in the next few hours. “This is a recommendation and not an urgent removal directive,” clarified the community, and it was announced that a temporary reception facility has been set up at an education center in the city.
