The siege around Kiev is tightening. Russian troops are already moving towards the Ukrainian capital, which has been under rocket fire since early this morning, the Interior Ministry has confirmed.
The Ukrainian authorities declared air raid alert in the Kiev after the missile strikes, broadcast and called the citizens to go to the nearest shelter.
Also, the Ukrainian authorities expect Russia to attack with armor in Kiev later today, estimating that Friday will be the most difficult day of the war, said an adviser to the interior minister.
The Deputy Defense Minister estimated that the Russian forces may later today reach areas just outside Kiev. She added that the Ukrainian army forces defending Kiev on four fronts are facing a numerically superior force.
She later said that the Russian army had confiscated two Ukrainian tanks, changed their uniforms with those of the Ukrainian army and moved with great speed towards the center of Kiev. They are followed by Russian military vehicles. “
Meanwhile, earlier airborne forces of the Ukrainian army blew up a bridge located above the river Teteriv in Ivankiv, about 50 kilometers north of Kiev, as announced by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
The move was made in an attempt to prevent Russian troops from entering the capital, according to CNN.
Earlier on Friday morning, top US officials estimated that Russian forces entering Ukraine via the border with Belarus were just 32 kilometers from the capital.
In the southern part of the country, Russian forces are moving with the aim – apparently – to create a zone they control on the coastal front.
From the south, Russian forces are moving from the Crimea, from the west from the Kherson region and from the east from Melitopol, exerting suffocating pressure on Mariupol.
“Ukrainian territories have already passed into Russian control, such as the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the strategically important Black Sea island of Fidonisi, with Ukrainian soldiers refusing to surrender and all being killed,” Volodymyr said.
