“A constructive, solution-oriented relationship will benefit both countries”, emphasizes Turkish Defense Minister
Sta Greek-Turkish mentioned, among others, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Gulerin his statements to Turkish journalists with whom he met in the context of the final phase of the interdisciplinary exercise “Efes 2024”which was conducted under the responsibility of the Turkish Army of the Aegean.
“I believe that we are going through a positive period in the development of our relations with Greece. As Turkey, we always act with the idea that peace has no losers and war has no winners. Of course, we will not make any concessions from our national interests as we strive for a peaceful solution. We are closely monitoring the developments. We don’t want to have problems with anyone, especially with our neighbors,” said the Turkish Minister of Defense to the relevant question of pro-government newspaper Hurriyet.
To her same question as well of pro-government Sabah Yasar Guler comments that “we are in a positive period with Greece”, while in a corresponding interview with Milliyet he notes: “As Turkey, we always act with the idea that “peace has no losers and war has no winners”. Of course, I would like to emphasize that we will never make any concessions from our national interests, as long as we strive for a peaceful solution, and that our determination on this matter is absolute. In this sense, we closely monitor every step, work, approach and statement.”
A relevant interview of the Turkish minister is also published by the widely circulated pro-government newspaper Aksamwhere, among other things, he insists on solving the problems on a bilateral level, without the involvement of third parties: “The best way for the two NATO allied countries to solve their problems is through dialogue without the need for third parties.”
On the same wavelength and the relevant reference to the also pro-government Posta, where Yasar Güler expresses his belief that in Greek-Turkish “we are going through a positive period and that an honest and constructive relationship with a solution-oriented approach will benefit both countries” and states: “We don’t want to have problems with anyone, especially with our neighbors.” However, he emphasizes that “we are working to increase the effectiveness and deterrence of our military to protect the rights and interests of our country” and reiterates that “the best way for the two NATO allied countries to solve their problems is to establish dialogue without the need for third parties’.
Regarding Turkish-Egyptian relations, the Turkish minister announces that “the president of Egypt is expected to visit our president in the next few days. I appreciate that our close relations will begin with this visit. I believe that our military relations will gain serious momentum in the coming period in the areas of training, assistance, advice and the defense industry.” However, it is not the first time that his visit has been announced Abdel Fattah al-Sisi in Turkey, however in previous times this visit was constantly postponed.
In all the reports of the Turkish press about the statements of Yasar Güler, the references to the developments around the Kurdish, in relation to the presence of the PKK in northern Iraq and the local elections that have been announced in the areas controlled by the Kurdish forces in northern Syria , occupy a dominant position. The Turkish minister emphatically emphasizes that Turkey “will not allow a fait accompli in northern Syria” and is ready for a military operation if necessary.
