Mediators from Qatar, the United States and Egypt today called on Israel and Palestinian Hamas to “finalize” a ceasefire agreement based on the plan announced by US President Joe Biden.

“As mediators in talks to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages and prisoners, Qatar, the United States and Egypt jointly call on Hamas and Israel to finalize the agreement based on the principles outlined by the president Joe Biden,” according to their joint statement issued in Cairo and Doha.

Qatar, the United States and Egypt have been engaged in talks for months aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement in the war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

But the negotiations broke down in early May when Israel began ground operations in Rafah, in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave.

US President Joe Biden said on Friday that Israel proposed a new three-phase road map to a full ceasefire, with the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip.

According to the joint statement of the three mediating countries, the principles laid out in Joe Biden’s speech “bring together the demands of all parties in an agreement that serves many interests.”

“This agreement offers a road map for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the crisis,” it added.
