President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Thursday (24) that he is the only federal government official who can take a stand on Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and disallowed Vice President Hamilton Mourão.

Earlier, before Bolsonaro commented on the conflict, Mourão said he did not agree with the attack made by the Vladimir Putin government. The vice president also defended that Western countries provide military aid to Ukraine and stated that Brazil is not neutral.
“There has to be use of force, really support for Ukraine, more than what is being put on. This is my vision. If the western world simply lets Ukraine fall to the ground, then Moldova will be next. the Baltic States and so on. Just like Hitler Germany did in the late 1930s”, declared the deputy.
In another part of the broadcast, Bolsonaro said he is consulting with ministers Carlos França (Foreign Affairs) and Braga Netto (Defense) about the war. He stated that he will meet again with these assistants later.

The Foreign Minister said that the government is working on a plan to withdraw Brazilians from Ukraine.

He said that “maybe it will be easier” to remove Brazilians by land, but that he is also considering negotiating entry into the region by international flight.
In the same broadcast, President Bolsonaro again stated that he defends peace. He also played down the visit to Putin days before Russia’s attack.
“We traveled in peace to Russia. We made exceptional contact with President Putin. We settled the fertilizer issue,” he said.
Earlier, Mourão had made a comparison between the current situation and the militaristic expansion of Nazi Germany commanded by Adolf Hitler. “The western world is the same as it was in 1938 with Hitler, the basis of appeasement. And Putin does not respect appeasement, that is the reality.”
