Russia has launched a major attack against Ukraine. After weeks of fear of an invasion in eastern Ukraine, the Russian offensive took place in several areas of the country, by air, water and land.
The attacks have already left more than a hundred dead and caused a mass flight of residents of Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened countries that try to interfere in the conflict, saying they will suffer consequences “unseen before” in history.
American Joe Biden said on Thursday (24) that he will not send troops to Ukraine, but that he will send more than 7,000 troops to Europe to protect territories of NATO countries, the western military alliance.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader, said there was a new Iron Curtain coming down over Europe – and that other countries could be Russia’s next targets.
This Friday’s Breakfast (25th) features a reporter from sheet Igor Gielow, who is in Moscow. He analyzes why Vladimir Putin decided to attack Ukraine, contrary to the predictions of most analysts, and talks about the next steps in this crisis.
