In late May, a 73-year-old British man died and more than a hundred people were injured, some to the spine and skull, in flight her Singapore Airlines from London to Singapore which fell into strong turbulence.

The Boeing 777-300ER had done dive 1,800 meters in a few minutes and so suddenly that the passengers said they did not have time to fasten their seat belts.

The aircraft was carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members and made an emergency landing in Bangkok.

Dozens of the passengers on the flight had to be treated – some still remain in hospital.

Compensation – mammoth to the injured

Singapore Airlines announced today that it has offered compensation 10,000 dollars (9,287 euros) to the injured passengers lightly and that he will negotiate higher amounts with those who were seriously injured.

Passengers who suffered more serious injuries “were invited to discuss a compensation offer tailored to their specific situation when they feel well and ready to do so,” the airline said in a statement.

“To the passengers who suffered serious injuries and who are in need of long-term medical care and are seeking financial assistance, is offered $25,000 down payment (23,217 euros) to cover their immediate needs”, explains Singapore Airlines.

“This amount will constitute part of the final compensation that these passengers will receive’.

The company will return also the how much of the airline ticket to all passengers on that flight, including those who were not injured.

All passengers will also receive delay compensation according to European Union or United Kingdom regulations,” the carrier clarified.

Singapore Airlines had already offered S$1,000 (686 euros) to every passenger on the flight that departed Bangkok after the incident to cover their immediate expenses.

The company also covered the medical expenses of the injured passengers and arranged their relatives’ trip to Bangkok for those who requested it.
