Eric Ciotti, head of the Republican right, seeks an alliance with the far right
The president of the conservative Les Republicains party, Eric Ciotti, supports the formation of an alliance with the French far-right and proposed a broad national alliance between his party’s candidates and the National Alarm candidates in the upcoming elections.
“We are saying the same things, so let’s stop making an imaginary opposition,” Eric Ciotti told the TF1 television network.
The president of the Les Republicains party said he had already entered into talks with Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardela of the far-right National Alarm, after declaring he was seeking a broad alliance between his Gaulish party and the French far-right.
“We need an alliance, remaining who we are, (…) with the National Alarm and its candidates,” Eric Ciotti said to the TFI television network, adopting a mildly controversial stance even within his party, which is considered his heir scoring.
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin called Ciotti’s decision “shameful”.
Marine Le Pen hails Eric Ciotti’s decision as a “courageous choice”.
French far-right leader Marine Le Pen hailed the “courageous choice” and “sense of duty” of Eric Ciotti, the head of the Republican right, who is seeking an alliance with the far right, the first such alliance for the party Les Republicains wants to inherit of Golism.
“Forty years of false quarantine, which resulted in the defeat of many elections, is disappearing,” said Marine Le Pen.
