Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he expects “important decisions” to be made at the G7 summit starting today in Italy, mainlythe signing of security agreements with the USA and Japan.

“Much of (this session) will be devoted to Ukraine, our defense and our economic resilience. We expect that important decisions will be made today,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.

The Ukraine he is also set to sign bilateral cooperation agreements with Japan and the US, with Zelensky stressing: “The text with the US will be unprecedented, as it should be for leaders who support Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian president pointed out to Telegram that on the sidelines of its session G7 he will have meetings with the leaders of the USA, Japan, Italy, Canada, Britain, the president of the European Council and the managing director of the International Monetary Fund.

At the same time, Zelensky clarified that from these meetings Kiev mainly expects decisions concerning the faster training of Ukrainian pilots, the more immediate deliveries of aircraft to Ukraine and the acquisition of more anti-aircraft defense means, as well as long-range weapons.

The G7 countries, which have been among Ukraine’s biggest backers since the Russian invasion, are also expected to discuss a major deal that would release a $50 billion loan for Kiev, secured by future profits from frozen Russian assets.

Kiev also today welcomed the new sanctions announced by the US on Wednesday, which are aimed at limiting Russian defense production targeting entities in Russia but also in other countries such as China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

“We especially welcome the strict measures taken against him defense sector of Russia and its access to technology and resources from abroad”, commented Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Kh.

“It is vital to global security that we choke Putin’s war machine. “Every weapon that Russia cannot produce (…) is a life saved,” he added.

The G7 summit is followed this weekend by a conference on peace in Ukraine, which will be held in Switzerland with the participation of some 90 countries and organizations and the aim of ending the war.
