Marie Le Pen could win an absolute majority of seats if she works with the Republican party
Marine Le Pen’s far-right party, the National Alarm, receiving 31% of the vote, appears, according to a poll by the Elabe company, to come first in terms of votes in the first round of the French parliamentary elections, without, however, managing to have the absolute parliamentary majority majority, since in the second round he will receive between 220 and 270 of the 577 seats of the French National Assembly. He could possibly obtain an absolute majority of seats if the Republican party cooperates with him, which, according to this poll, receiving 6.5% of the votes in the first round, could win between 30 and 40 seats in the second round.
According to the same poll, the second place in the first round of the French parliamentary elections will be taken by the coalition of parties of the Left which, receiving 28% of the votes in the first round, could win between 150 and 190 seats in the second round. As far as President Macron’s faction is concerned, it appears to receive 18% of the votes in the first round of the parliamentary elections and to win in the second round from 90 to 130 seats.
In the hypothetical case of the cooperation of the Macron faction with the alliance of the parties of the Left, there could also be, based on the opinion poll, an absolute parliamentary majority, as also in the also hypothetical case of the cooperation of the Macron faction with the large majority of MPs who will elect the Left and the Republicans.
Finally, in a marginal case, the approximately 10 to 20 independent MPs who are estimated to be elected could also play a decisive role, while the possible cooperation of the far-right party either with the Macron faction or with the Left does not constitute work cases. According to the French electoral system, MPs are elected in 577 single-seat constituencies, where the candidates of the first two parties in the first round go to the second round.
The first round of the upcoming parliamentary elections will take place on June 30 and the second round on July 7.
