“He himself will not stop,” Zelensky said, referring to Putin, drawing a parallel to the expansionist policies of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
The proposal for a ceasefire made by the Russian president Vladimir Putin is an ultimatum that cannot be trusted, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today.
Speaking to Italian news channel SkyTG24 on the sidelines of the G7 summit, Zelensky said he believed Putin would not stop his military offensive even if his demands for a ceasefire are met.
“These are ultimatum messages no different from past messages,” the Ukrainian leader characteristically stated in his statements that were translated and broadcast live through an interpreter.
“He himself will not stop,” Zelensky said, referring to Putin, drawing a parallel with the Nazi dictator’s expansionist policies Adolf Hitler before World War II broke out.
“It’s the same thing that Hitler did… That’s why we shouldn’t trust these messages,” Zelesny added.
Ukraine rejected the terms for the ceasefire announced by the Russian president earlier on Friday as “absurd”, saying it is trying to mislead world powers and undermine real peace efforts.
Putin stated in a speech that Russia will immediately end the war in Ukraine only if Kiev agree to abandon its NATO ambitions and surrender all four provinces claimed by Moscow.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine described his words as “statements of manipulation which aim to mislead the international community (and) undermine diplomatic efforts to achieve a just peace.”
The United States sent an ultimatum to Moscow, interfering with Vladimir Putin’s “peace terms” in Kiev. Russian president ‘not in a position’ to have demands from Ukraine to end the war, explained the US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, extolling Kiev’s military successes in the face of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
U.S. ultimatum to Moscow: Putin “is not in a position” to make demands
The United States sent an ultimatum to Moscow, interfering with Vladimir Putin’s “peace terms” in Kiev. Russian president ‘not in a position’ to have demands from Ukraine to end the war, the US Secretary of Defense said on Friday Lloyd Austin, extolling Kiev’s military successes in the face of Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Among other things, Putin said earlier Friday that Russia would end the war in Ukraine “in a minute.” only if Kiev agrees to abandon its aspirations for NATO membershipand if he surrenders all four provinces claimed by Moscow and demilitarizes.
“He is not in a position to dictate to Ukraine what to do for peace,” Austin told reporters at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
On the eve of a peace conference in Switzerland, to which Russia has not been invited, Putin put forward a series of conditions completely opposite to those demanded by Ukraine.
“The conditions are very simple,” Putin said, referring to these as the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions in eastern and southern Ukraine.
“As soon as they declare in Kiev that they are ready for such a decision and begin a real withdrawal of troops from these areas, and also officially announce the abandonment of their plans to join NATO – from our side, immediately, literally at the same time in the minute, we will follow an order for a cease-fire and start negotiations,” he said.
