Sandwich maker Greencore, a major UK supermarket supplier, has recalled some products due to a risk of E.coli, the Food Standards Agency has announced.
As reported by NEWS, the products were recalled as a precaution just a week after the UK Health Safety Authority (UKHSA) announced that there was an outbreak of E.coli which resulted in several citizens needing hospital treatment.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said Greencore was recalling products from retailers including Boots, Asda, Co-op, Aldi and Amazon due to “possible E.coli contamination”.
As can be seen, other manufacturers will issue their own recalls in the next few hours.
In a statement on Friday afternoon, the UKHSA said cases had almost doubled in the past week – with another 98 recorded – bringing the total number of people affected to 211.
Citing information, he even summarized that out of 160 cases to date, 42% were admitted to the hospital.
Last week, the E.coli outbreaks were linked to a “nationally distributed food product”, UKHSA said, without elaborating on the product believed to be responsible.
