Vladimir Putin had reported in December that 617,000 men had taken part in the operation
The Russian president Vladimir Putin stated today Friday that nearly 700,000 soldiers they are currently participating in the attack on Ukraine.
“We have almost 700,000 soldiers in the special military operation zone,” Putin said, using the official term for the military operation that began in February 2022, during a televised meeting with decorated soldiers.
The Russian president had reported in December that 617,000 men took part in the operation.
This announcement is made in the midst of the major offensive that Russia has been conducting since May in the area of Kharkivin northeastern Ukraine.
Russia does not report human casualties in its operation in Ukraine. September 2022 was the last time Moscow announced that had 5,937 soldiers killed on the battlefield. However, a number of independent analyzes and figures from Western intelligence agencies estimate these losses to be in the tens of thousands.
Russia, however, has the numerical advantage at the front against Ukraine, which is now trying to build up its forces after more than two years of bloody and destructive fighting.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, said in February that his country’s military casualties were mounting to 31,000 dead.
