IDF spokesman: “Hezbollah’s increasing aggression brings us to the brink of a wider escalation, one that could have catastrophic consequences”
The intensifying cross-border fire from Hezbollah of Lebanon to Israel they could cause serious escalationthe Israeli army (IDF) warned on Sunday.
“Hezbollah’s increasing aggression brings us to the brink of a wider escalation, one that could have disastrous consequences for Lebanon and the entire region,” Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a statement in English.
The Iranian-backed Hezbollah last week launched its biggest barrage of rocket and drone attacks in eight months of hostilities with the Israeli army, which is also fighting the Gaza war.
The US and France are working towards a negotiated settlement of hostilities along Lebanon’s southern border. Hezbollah says it will not stop the attacks if it doesn’t stop the Israeli military attack on Gaza.
“Israel will take the necessary measures to protect its civilians – until security is restored on our border with Lebanon,” Haggari stressed.
Xagari noted that “Hezbollah endangers Lebanon’s future, so that it can be a shield for Hamas. A shield for the Hamas terrorists who murdered the elderly, raped women, burned children and kidnapped Jews, Muslims and Christians in the October 7 massacre.”
“When we say that we will not allow a repeat of October 7th on none of our borders, we mean it,” the Israeli military emphasized.
“Iranian terror satellites continue to drag the region into destruction. Israel will continue to fight against Iran’s axis of evil on all fronts — in Gaza, in Lebanon — as we work toward a more secure future for the Middle East,” he said.
“October 7 cannot happen again, on any of Israel’s borders. Israel has a duty to defend the people of Israel. We will fulfill this dutyat all costs”he added.
