At least 24 people were killed and 47 injured in a strike on an IDP camp near Rafaat the southern tip of the Gaza Strip, the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled Palestinian enclave announced yesterday Friday.

Eyewitnesses reported that “shells from Israeli tanks” hit the camp in the Mawassi area, the German News Agency (dpa) reports.

So far, Mr Israeli army denies responsibility. He says he is investigating the reports, but preliminary evidence he has gathered indicates that Israeli military forces are not responsible for the massacre.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) says in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that projectiles from large-caliber weapons fell a short distance from its facility in the Gaza Strip, around which hundreds of displaced persons have taken refuge. She reports that her mobile hospital was overwhelmed by victims on Friday afternoon, speaking of “22 dead and 45 wounded”.

In the announcement of the ICRC, it is underlined that attacks “so close to humanitarian structures, the locations of which are known to the warring parties and are clearly marked with the emblem of the Red Cross, endanger the lives of civilians and members of the staff of the Red Cross”.
