At least 23 drones shot down over Bryansk region in western Russia – For its part, Moscow launched an airstrike on Kiev and its surrounding area
The Ukraine launched dozens of drones overnight targeting various Russian regions, but there were no reports of casualties or damage, Russian officials said today.
At least 23 drones were shot down over Bryansk Oblast in western Russia, which borders Ukraine, its governor Alexander Bogomaz said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Russia’s air defense systems also shot down drones over the Smolensk region in western Russia, according to a post on the same app by the region’s governor, Vasily Anokhin. It is currently unclear how many drones were shot down in this region.
According to the information available so far, no losses or damages were caused in the two districts, noted the two governors.
An air strike alert was also sounded in the Lipetsk region, a few hundred kilometers south of Moscow, its governor also announced in a Telegram post.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm this information. At the moment Ukrainian officials have not commented on this information.
Kiev says its strikes inside Russian territory are aimed at undermining Moscow’s war effort and are in response to Russia’s incessant airstrikes on its energy and military infrastructure, as well as its transport infrastructure.
Russian air attack on Kyiv
But for its part, Russia launched an air attack on Kiev and its surrounding area, forcing the activation of air defense systems to repel the hits, the mayor of the capital of Ukraine and the administrative authorities announced today in a post on the Telegram messaging application authorities of the greater Kyiv region.
Eyewitnesses told Reuters they heard several explosions in and around Kiev, which they described as sounding like air defense systems hitting weapons in the air.
