Three people were killed and nine others were injured when a car bomb exploded in the town of Taminango in the province of Nariño, in southeastern Colombia, local authorities said Saturday.

The car packed with 40 kg of explosives detonated near a police station and the shock wave caused destruction to buildings and vehicles tens of meters away.

Luis Alfonso Escobar, prefect of Narinho, said that a policeman and two civilians were killed because of this “paranoid action”.

The same police station had been the target of two attacks last year, Mayor Fernando Latorre recalled, calling for an immediate reinforcement of security measures.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stressing in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that criminals who “choose the path of war instead of that of peace” will suffer the consequences of the law.
