President Joe Biden kicked off a series of fundraising events in two states on Saturday in an effort to regain voter confidence after criticism of his lackluster debate performance.

The events come as many Democratic donors expressed concern about Biden’s weak showing against Republican rival Donald Trump on Thursday night and wondered what they could do to turn the tide of the race.

Biden and First Lady Jill Biden visited the posh New York beach enclave known as the Hamptons for a fundraising campaign organized by hedge fund billionaire Barry Rosentein. Later in the day, Joe Biden will travel to New Jersey for a fundraiser hosted by wealthy New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

“I understand the concern about the debate. I didn’t have a great night,” Biden told the room of about 100 supporters gathered in the Hamptons. “The thing is, I didn’t have a great night, and neither did Trump.”

He added: “I promise you we will win this election.”

Another hedge fund founder, Eric Mindich, and his award-winning producer wife Stacey, celebrity couple Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and actor Michael J. Fox were all on the host committee at the New York event, according to Reuters.

Biden told a rally in North Carolina on Friday that he plans to defeat Republican rival Donald Trump in November’s presidential election, in a sign that he has no plans to resign.
