Ariana Grande is being criticized by the family of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims. That’s because the pop singer recently stated that her “dream dinner” would be with the serial killer.
“To me, it sounds like she’s sick in the head,” Shirley Hughes, Tony Hughes’ mother, told TMZ. “It’s not classy or funny to say you would have liked to have dinner with him. It’s also not something you should say to young people, which she says she did.”
Tony was one of Dahmer’s 17 victims, whom he met in a gay bar in 1991. At age 31, he was drugged and became one of the serial killer’s 17 victims. He was deaf and couldn’t speak.
In addition to Shirley, Tony’s sister, Barbara, also expressed her repudiation of the singer’s statements. For her, the singer helps to glamorize the image of the killer, who ended up being killed in prison in 1994. She asks Ariana to publicly apologize.
“Unfortunately, until it happens to her and her family, she just doesn’t know what we’ve been through,” Barbara also told TMZ.
Earlier this month, Grande said on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast that she was fascinated by serial killers as a teenager. She recalled that, during a question and answer session with fans, a young woman asked her who she would like to have dinner with, if she could choose.
“I thought, ‘Oh, how cute. Mom, Dad, is it okay if I give the real answer?’ And they said, ‘Sure, what’s the answer?’. And I said, ‘Jeffrey Dahmer is pretty fascinating. I think I would have loved to have met him. You know, maybe with a third person or someone involved.’
