The first summer holidays for a large portion of French citizens begin today in France. The carefreeness of the holidays, however, has been seriously disrupted by unexpected planning of early parliamentary elections abut also from the harsh realization that the country is going through an unprecedented crisis, which worries many citizens.

The only solution for many was to issue a proxy to trusted people in order to vote. According to the French Ministry of the Interior, they have already exceeded two million, i.e. more than double those of the 2022 parliamentary elections.

This is an indication, according to analysts, that participation is expected to be high. A “triangular shape” of confrontations that will arise during tomorrow’s first round is also considered a possible consequence. In other words, it is not excluded that not two but three candidates will pass to the second. So the political battles will flare up again in the middle of next week.

Possible “triangles” in the second round

In such a case, to qualify a candidate, he must garner 12.5% of the registered vote. The absence of withdrawal in certain “triangles” is estimated to work in favor of the extreme right.

In 2022, with a turnout of 47%, there were eight constituencies with “triangular” contests in the second round. In the current elections, the “triangular” are calculated from 120 to 170. According to the estimates, however, from the corresponding schemes, it is expected that the National Rally will benefit more throughout the country.

There are of course the French abroad, who send eleven deputies to the French National Assembly. In the first round, they had the right to participate from June 25 to 27 by proxy and online. Last Thursday, the participation of 410,000 online voters was counted. Record participation here as well, since in 2022 online voters from abroad were 250,000.

Bardela’s statements that he will ban strategic jobs for those with dual citizenship “worry, hurt and anger” many French people abroad.
