Intense processes in the political parties for the next day. Emmanuel Macron’s silence about the new prime minister is irritating. “Who will be prime minister”?
It’s the big question these days France, three days after the results of the second round of parliamentary elections. The Left, together with the four parties of the New Left Front (NFP), which won the first seats (11+182=193), are consulting day and night to find the right person. A difficult task since the hegemony of the Disobedients began to be questioned after the departure of members who clashed with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, while at the same time the Socialists rose, doubling their seats compared to 2022 and are in full competition with the Disobedients.
Time is pressing. The president Macron he left for America as an invitee for the 75 years of NATO and doesn’t seem to be in a hurry. He even stated before leaving that he would wait for “the structure of the new Parliament before appointing a prime minister”. In the meantime, fermentation is also intense in the governing coalition of the center with a portion of the Republicans of the right, who began to dream of creating a new center-right bloc with nearly 220 seats, therefore stronger than that of the Left.
The silence of the president regarding the announcement of the name of the prime minister has, however, begun to raise spirits with suspicions that he is deliberately delaying to avoid the appointment from the Left bloc that he won, as mandated by the Constitution. The tension has even increased after the circulation of rumors about secret meals and meetings of “Macronics” with Marine Le Pen, which the Élysée does not confirm. On the contrary, former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe confirmed it yesterday regarding himself, justifying that Marine Le Pen “has 33% of the people’s preference” and for him it was an opportunity “to confirm the main differences with his own views”.
Finally, with yesterday’s statement by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, the Marine Le Pen is again in the sights of Justice for “illegal financing of her campaign in 2022”, it is an amount that exceeds 300,000 euros for the rental of 12 buses for the campaign. At the same time, let us recall that on September 30, she was called, together with 24 members of her (former) party, to apologize “for embezzlement of European funds” during their European mandate from 2004 to 2016.
