EU – Ukraine crisis: Council of Ministers imposes new sanctions

The Council of Ministers added 26 faces and an entity in the list of persons, entities and bodies subject to restrictive measures in relation to actions that undermine or threaten its territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence; Of Ukraine.

The new lists include oligarchs and businessmen active in the oil, banking and financial sectors, as well as government members, high-ranking military figures and propagandists who have contributed to the spread of anti-Ukrainian propaganda and promoted a positive attitude towards the invasion of Ukraine.

“With these additional sanctions, we are targeting all those who have a significant financial role to play in supporting the Putin regime and benefiting financially from the system,” the High Representative said in a statement. Josep Borrell and notes that “those who allow the invasion of Ukraine will pay a price for their action.”

The restrictive measures, which now apply to a total of 680 individuals and 53 entities, include the freezing of assets and a ban on the allocation of funds to listed individuals and entities. In addition, the travel ban on persons on the list prevents entry or transit through EU territory.

Today’s decision complements the package of measures announced by the High Representative following the EU Foreign Ministers’ teleconference on 27 February. This package also includes the provision of equipment and supplies to the Ukrainian armed forces through the European Peace Facility, the ban on flights to EU airspace and access to EU airports by Russian air carriers of all kinds, as well as the ban on trade with the Central Bank of Russia.
