He had suspended them in 2021 when the former US president praised his supporters who stormed the Capitol
THE Meta announced yesterday Friday that it is lifting the restrictions it had imposed on the accounts at Facebook and Instagram of the former US president Donald Trump.
The social media giant had suspended Trump’s accounts indefinitely after the Republican praised his supporters who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Meta subsequently reinstated his accounts in March 2023 but had indicated that it would monitor Trump’s posts for potential new violations of the company’s rules, which could lead to his suspension again.
“In considering our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the presidential candidates on the same footing,” explained Meta.
The Republican was disqualified in 2021 from the YouTube and from Twitterin which he was particularly active with more than 85 million followers.
He now communicates with his supporters primarily through him Truth Sociala platform he created himself, which however has failed to win over the general public.
Trump’s X account was reinstated by the billionaire Elon Musk, shortly after he bought the company in 2022, though he’s made just one post since then.
On his Facebook account, which is followed by 34 million users, he regularly reposts posts from Truth Social, posts invitations to campaign rallies, videos of his campaign and memes mainly to attack his Democratic opponent Joe Biden.
