China’s embassy in Kyiv has said it has begun evacuating citizens from Ukraine, according to the BBC’s Steven McDonnell.
The Chinese media Global Times reported on Monday that the Chinese embassy in Ukraine is considering plans for evacuations due to the “Deteriorating situation” in the country.
The embassy said the first group left yesterday, according to McDonell’s tweets, and were Chinese students from Kyiv heading to Moldova, and that more student groups would follow.
The United States and France called on the Americans and the French on Sunday their nationals to leave Russia immediately citing growing air travel restrictions as a result of sanctions imposed on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
That China is only getting its people out now could in mean 1: #Beijing initially felt it was important not to upset #Russia by prematurely getting Chinese people out of Ukraine or 2: #China did not expect #Moscow to attack all of #Ukraine?
