Australia will provide A $ 70 million (approximately € 45 million) to finance deadly defense weapons for Ukraine, including missiles and ammunition, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said today.
Australia has changed its stance since last week, saying it would only fund military technical support.
Morrison said today that most of the new arms funding for Ukraine would go to the lethal weapons category.
“We mean missiles, we mean ammunition, we mean that we will support them in defending their homeland in Ukraine and we will do that in cooperation with NATO,” he added.
The weapons will be delivered quickly, he continued, without revealing how this will be done.
“Do not do it,” Morrison told Australians who would like to travel to join the militia fighting the Russian military, noting that the legal status of foreign nationals fighting is unclear.
Australia will also provide A $ 35 million (approximately € 22 million) in humanitarian aid to international organizations to help Ukrainians provide housing, food, medical care, water and education, he said.
