Canadian authorities issued evacuation orders late Monday night for the City of Jasper and Jasper National Park in the province of Alberta following wildfires.

Jasper city officials said in a statement that the fire was initially expected to reach the community within five hours, but noted that is no longer expected to happen.

However, authorities indicated that the city should be evacuated as a precaution.

High temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere have fueled wildfires across much of the western US and Canada.

Last week, wildfires raging in northern Alberta forced authorities to order the evacuation of three communities. In the neighboring province of British Columbia as many as 367 wildfires are still raging.

Earlier this month, Suncor, Canada’s second-largest oil company, temporarily curtailed some production and pulled non-essential personnel from its 215,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Firebag facility due to a fire raging about 8 kilometers.
