Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reported from China, where she is making an official visit, on the developments in the Middle East.

“I am particularly concerned about what is happening in Lebanon. For the risk of a regional peak of tension in a phase, precisely, in which there seemed to be room for dialogue. This is also an element that must be taken into account”said the Italian Prime Minister.

“Every time it looks like we’re a little bit closer to being able to reach a ceasefire, something happens. It means, that is, that there are different regional factors, which aim to heighten the tension. Factors which also aim to force Israel to react. I point this out also because I want to appeal to Israel not to fall into this particular trap”added the Italian prime minister.

Georgia Meloni emphasized that “she is in contact with allies” and that “at this stage, messages of moderation must be sent.” “China, in this regard, can prove to be particularly important, given the strong relations it maintains with Iran and Saudi Arabia. In the whole effort aimed at the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab countries, China is certainly a very important interlocutor”, concluded the head of the Italian government.
