The polls opened at 7:00 in the morning for the repeat elections in Heimarraamid allegations of vote-buying and extortion by Socialist Party officials, in order to support the elected Socialist Party, Vangelis Tavo.

As reported by the envoy of SKAI in Heimarra, Christos Nikolaidis, the polls will close at 7:00 in the afternoon, while already several voters have come early to the polls.

According to the election results, in the previous municipal elections, 7,800 voters went to the polls, with the number of registered voters exceeding 22,000 and Freddy Beleris winning by a margin of just 19 votes.

“Once again there is a climate of concern and unrest, with pressure from the government and the socialist party. They have been pressured to settle various outstanding issues, as long as they support the chosen one of the socialist party”, emphasized the SKAI envoy

Meanwhile, high-ranking officials of the Albanian government, including the former head of the country’s secret services and a current official of the Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Heimarra. In fact, the prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama, visited Himarra on Saturday, in an attempt to win the votes of the diaspora.

Vangelis Tavos is a former prefect of Avlona, originally from Dropoli. He was a member of parliament and a minister of the socialist party from which he had left. He had allied himself with the party of the Albanian ex-president Ilir Meta, who last year supported Beleris and this year supports Ghikuria.
