Its principles Australia announced today Monday that they have raised the alert level for the possibility that they may be committed terrorist actions in the territory to “probable”, due to the rise of “extremist ideologies”, following a series of recent bloody actions.

“Australia’s security environment is getting worse, more volatile and more unpredictable,” Mike Burgess, director of ASIO, told the press.

“More and more Australians are being radicalised” and the country is facing “sharp increases in political polarisation”, he insisted.

There is no tangible evidence to suggest an “imminent attack” is imminent, however ASIO estimates the threat will increase (“over 50%”, according to Mr Burgess) in the next twelve months.

“Politically motivated violence now ranks alongside espionage and foreign interference in our core security concerns,” Mr Burgess noted.

Australia has been experiencing a surge in knife attacks in recent months.

In April, six people died in an attack of this nature at a shopping center in Sydney. The perpetrator, a man in his forties with mental health problems, was killed by police fire.

Two days later, an Assyrian priest was stabbed inside a Sydney temple during a live sermon. The victim survived. The perpetrator, 16 years old, has been prosecuted for “terrorist action”.

In early May, another teenager, also 16, “radicalised” and with mental health problems, was shot dead by police in a suburb of Perth (west) after injuring a man in another knife attack.
