Concern is mounting over the situation in the Middle East with the G7 urging all parties involved to show restraint, saying recent events “threaten to ignite a wider conflict in the region”.

The G7 urged “all parties involved once again to refrain from perpetuating the current destructive cycle of retaliatory violence, reduce tensions and engage constructively towards de-escalation,” in a statement.

It is noted that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told his G7 counterparts that an attack by Iran and Hezbollah against Israel could begin as early as Monday, according to the website Axio.

The purpose of the conference call was reportedly to coordinate the closest US allies and try to put diplomatic pressure on Iran and Hezbollah to minimize retaliation.

Meanwhile, an Israeli official told CBS News that while Iran’s April 13 attack was mostly prevented, Israel is waiting “more aggressively.”
