Ukraine announced on Wednesday mandatory evacuations of civilians in more than 20 border settlements with Kursk
Two people including a 6-year-old child were killed in a Russian strike in the northern Sumy region bordering Russia’s Kursk.
Separately, a Ukrainian official said a young man and his 6-year-old brother were killed when a Russian bomb hit a schoolyard on Thursday, after Moscow’s troops stepped up airstrikes in the northern region Sumi.
Moscow on Tuesday accused the Ukrainian military of launching an offensive in the Kursk region, in one of the biggest incursions in the two-year war.
Russia said it was continuing to push back Kiev’s forces.
The two people were killed in the village of Mohrytsia, Volodymyr Artiukh, head of the military administration of the Sumy region, told national television. He said the region had been hit by an unprecedented number of airstrikes.
“The Sumy region has never experienced such a large number of raids in one day,” he added, referring to the 56 bombs dropped by Russia in the past 24 hours.
