Qatar calls for independent UN investigators to investigate targeting of schools and shelters
TQatar, which has assumed the role of mediator between Israel and the Islamist organization Hamas, called for an “urgent international investigation” following the bombing of a school in Gaza, which killed 93 people today, according to the Palestinian enclave’s Civil Protection.
The State Department requested, in a press release issued, “the mission of independent UN investigatorsin order to conduct investigations into the continued targeting by the Israeli occupation forces of schools and shelters for the displaced.”
The authorities in Gaza Stripwhere Hamas rules, announced today that around 100 people were killed and dozens injured in fresh airstrikes targeting a school where displaced persons had taken refuge in Gaza City, two days after bombings at two other school buildings.
An Israeli military spokesman said about 20 Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters were operating from the school that was hit.
“The compound and the mosque that was hit inside it served as an active Hamas and Islamic Jihad military facility,” Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani told X.
He added that the casualty figures given by Hamas’ media office “do not line up with the information held by the IDF, the exact ammunition used and the accuracy of the strike.”
