The former candidate for the White House Hillary Clinton called on Tuesday for the Democratic Party to finally break the glass ceiling and elect the first female president in United States history.

“Something is happening in America. You feel it. Something we’ve worked for and dreamed of for a long time,” the former US secretary of state and former first lady assured on the first day of this week’s Democratic convention in Chicago.

The 70-year-old, who 8 years ago failed to be elected against Donald Trump, called on Americans to realize her dream and break in November “the highest, most difficult glass ceiling” by voting for Kamala Harris.

The vice president has sparked a wave of excitement since Joe Biden’s departure and her lightning-fast entry into the campaign a month ago.

However, Hillary Clinton warned members of the convention: “Don’t rest on your laurels. Over the next 78 days, we must work harder than ever.”

During her 2016 election campaign, the Democratic candidate was the favorite in the polls against Donald Trump and received the most votes nationally, but failed to collect the necessary majority of the electors.

Clinton did not mince her words against the billionaire Republican, who is running for the third time.

“He is the first person to run for president while convicted of 34 felonies,” she said, referring to his criminal conviction in New York, the first time a former US president has been convicted.

The crowd responded by chanting “Lock him in!”, reminiscent of the slogan “Lock her in!” shouted by the Republicans, who in 2016 wanted to send the Democratic candidate to prison.

“It’s no surprise that he’s lying about Kamala’s account, that he’s making fun of her name and her laugh,” Clinton continued.

She left the stage with the same song that accompanied her election rallies eight years ago: the “Fight song”.
