OR German government denied yesterday Monday estimates that he will put limits on the support he provides to Ukraine due to its financial needs.

“OR Germany remains fully committed and Chancellor Olaf Solz’s promise that support to Ukraine will continue as long as necessary and that no one, especially the Russian president (Vladimir Putin), can hope for it to be reduced, will be kept,” said deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Buschner to the accredited editors in Berlin yesterday.

He insisted that there is no change in the determination of German support for the Ukrainian military to repel the invasion of the Russian armed forces that began in February 2022.

However, some of the aid that was provided bilaterally, with funds from the federal budget, is now expected to be integrated into a multilateral support scheme that is still up in the air, as plans for this have not yet been finalized.

However, Mr. Soltz yesterday tried to reassure Kiev, stressing that this arrangement would “allow Ukraine to procure equipment on a large scale.”

How Berlin will support Kiev next year is shrouded in uncertainty.

Four Iris-T air defense systems, ten armored Gepard anti-aircraft guns, sixteen self-propelled guns, ten Leopard tanks, unmanned aerial vehicles and thousands of shells for artillery and tank guns remain to be delivered this year.

In 2024, Germany provides almost 7.5 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, and for 2025 it has planned 4 billion euros. This latter amount can be increased by a decision of the Bundestag, the lower house, as happened in 2024.

According to a report by Der Spiegel magazine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has already unofficially requested that the amount be increased by at least 4 billion euros. A spokesman for his ministry did not comment. The Ministry of Finance limited itself to stating that it had not received an official notification.
