Five people were killed and ten others injured in a fire that broke out at a hotel in Bucheon, west of Seoul, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.

The fire started around 19:39 (local time) from the eighth floor of the nine-story hotel located about 20 kilometers southwest of the capital Seoul. According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, at least one of the dead was a hotel customer.

46 fire engines with more than 150 firefighters have been deployed to the scene.

“Right now we are putting out the fire and trying to rescue people, so we don’t have the exact number of casualties,” said an official from the Gyeonggi Province Fire Department. “The number of victims may rise,” he warned.

Interior Minister Lee Sang-min called for every effort by the fire department and local authorities, with all available personnel and means, to rescue people and put out the fire.
