Her Navy Ukrainian confirmed on Friday that it had destroyed a ferry in the Russian port of Kafkaz, which was being used to transport fuel and weapons to the Russia Crimea.

Local authorities had earlier reported that a fire had broken out after the Ukrainian attack launched on Thursday against the southern Russian region of Krasnodar. As the TASS agency reported today, the fire at the port has not yet been extinguished.

“Another clearly military target destroyed. It was used to provide fuel to the invaders. The ferry has sunk and this port (Kafkaz) cannot function until it is removed,” Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk told Ukrainian television.

The ferry was carrying 30 fuel tanks, Fyodor Babenkov, head of the Temryuk region, where the port is located, pointed out yesterday. The ferry was severely damaged by the attack and eventually sank.

The port of Kafkaz is one of Russia’s largest on the Black Sea. The port handles ships used for both exports and fuel supplies to Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
