Four people have been killed and one is missing after a helicopter returning from a firefighting mission crashed into the Douro River in northern Portugal.

He was on the helicopter a team of five experts of the Protection and Assistance Unit. The two were found dead in the wreckage and two others were also found dead near the tail section of the helicopter, which was cut in two, Douro Port Authority Commander Rui Silva Lambreia said.

Rescue crews are still looking for the fifth member of the group.

Prime Minister Luiz Montenegro, who went to the scene of the tragedy, told reporters that tomorrow (Saturday) will be a day of mourning for Portugal.
