Eastern Mediterranean, bilateral relations and economy dominate the agenda of Erdogan and Al-Sisi. Turkish analysts speak of a “historic reconciliation”.
“OR presence of President Al Sisi in Ankara it proves that President Erdoğan knows how to fight when there is a fight and does not hesitate to make peace when he wants to make peace” comments the well-known analyst of Hurriyet newspaper Abdulkadir Selvi in his article today. Selvi emphasizes that Erdogan’s idea to restore Turkey’s recently troubled relations with countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and now Egypt has brought positive results.
In fact, he sees the normalization of relations Turkey and Egypt as a historical necessity: “While the footsteps of the third world war are heard and our region is divided, Turkey and Egypt should sit side by side and at the same table” he writes in his article. The Turkish and international press are talking about a new page in bilateral relations today In the joint press conference, on Wednesday, the president of Turkey said that the two countries confirmed their will to improve their relations in every field – including in defence, health, energy and the environment. President Sisi emphasized that his visit to Turkey paves the way for a new phase in economic and trade relations.”
“Multidimensional Relationships”
In addition to the agreement for common line in GazaErdogan and Al-Sisi discussed regional issues, including the Eastern Mediterranean, Syria, Libya, Sudan and the Horn of Africa. “We are determined to strengthen consultations with Egypt, with whom we share similar positions and goals on many issues. We will cooperate more closely and promote our multidimensional relations with a mutual benefit (kazan-kazan) approach,” Erdogan stressed. The Egyptian president said he discussed with President Erdogan ending the civil war in Libya by holding presidential and parliamentary elections and removing foreign troops from its territory.
17 Memorandums of Cooperation were signed yesterday between Turkey and Egypt with the aim of increasing trade to 15 billion dollars from 6.6 billion last year. MOUs were signed on the creation of industrial parks, higher education and scientific research, telecommunications, media financing, the tourism sector and energy, among others.
Analysts point out that with this historic reconciliation, Turkey seeks to participate in regional Egyptian natural gas transport projects in Europe. The Turkish president said: “We are willing to strengthen our energy cooperation with Egypt, especially in natural gas and nuclear energy.”
