Russian drones caused significant damage to the energy infrastructure of the city of Konotopin northern Ukraine, in a nighttime attack that resulted at least 14 people were injured and cut off electricity to the city, as local officials announced today.

Authorities were trying to restore electricity to the city, which was home to about 83,000 people before the war. Local officials said there were 10 explosions during the attack, and Mayor Artem Semenikin said the situation with the energy system was very difficult.

“Right now, special crews are making every effort to provide electricity to the hospital and the water supply system,” he said earlier today. Hospitals continue to operate, he added.

Konotop is located in the Sumy region, which has been a target of Russia several times in recent weeks.

The Konotop strike was part of a wider Russian attack using 64 drones, the Air Force said. 44 of them were shot down in nine different areas, according to the same source.

Semenikin said authorities in Konotop did not know when power would be restored and planned to provide water on an hourly schedule.

The attack damaged seven apartment buildings, medical and educational institutions, a store, a bank and part of the city’s tram network, district attorneys and local officials said.
