Just 24 hours before it starts Oktoberfestof the annual beer festival in Munich, a worker was killed during roller coaster testing.

According to his fire department Munichthe 20-year-old was hit by a wagon that had developed the maximum possible speed in the test frame. It remains unclear at the moment why the unfortunate worker was on the tracks at the time.

The 20-year-old Romanian was taken to a hospital in the Bavarian capital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Representative of the fire department at Germany stated that the tragic incident was not related to the safety of visitors who will use the roller coaster: “It was a work accident that occurred during the set-up” of the ride.

This particular roller coaster is called Olympia Looping – reminiscent of the five Olympic circles – and was presented for the first time at Oktoberfest in 1989. The total length of the route reaches 1,250 meters and the carriages develop a speed of up to 90 km/h.

In March 2022, a similar accident with a roller coaster amusement park had occurred in Vienna, with a 30-year-old worker as the victim. In a tragic irony, it involved the same coaster, which had then been moved to the Austrian capital’s Prater amusement park.
