The Future Summit, a high-level global meeting convened by the United Nations (UN), will take place at the international organization’s headquarters in New York.

The Summit in question is being initiated by the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and is part of the broader efforts of the UN to address critical global challenges and reform the international system to be ready for the future. The summit is based on the UN Declaration in 2020 for the 75th anniversary of the international organization and aims to revitalize global cooperation.

Objectives and Agenda of the Synod

The Future Summit aims to provide a platform for leaders, civil society and other actors to discuss various global challenges. Some of the key objectives include:

Strengthening Cooperation: The summit focuses on strengthening multilateral cooperation to address issues such as climate change, pandemics and inequalities, ensuring that international systems are more resilient.

Adoption of the Pact for the Future: A key outcome of the summit is expected to be the adoption of a Pact for the Future, a commitment to strengthen international governance on global challenges, including climate action, digital transformation, peace, security and of sustainable development.

Addressing Global Challenges: The summit will address issues such as geopolitical tensions, economic instability, human rights, digital governance and threats to global peace, setting an agenda for future cooperation.

Reform of Global Institutions: Another important issue will be the reform of global institutions, including the UN itself, to better reflect current geopolitical realities and ensure equal treatment in developing countries.
