The Emilia Romagna region of northern Italy is on high alert due to extreme weather conditions.

Continuous rainfall is occurring in the area, the intensity of which is expected to begin to decrease from tomorrow afternoon. Earlier, the Tramazzo river broke its dams at Modigliana, outside the town of Forli. Many families were moved to a safer area, an elementary school gymnasium. The waters of the rivers have gained momentum from the Apennine mountain range and are in danger of flooding all the houses in the village.

On Thursday, schools will remain closed in the areas of the cities of Bologna, Forli, Rimini and Ravenna. The region of Emilia Romagna has asked residents to limit their travel by car to a minimum.

The Civil Protection is also on alert in the wider region of Naples due to the continuous rains, which significantly increase the risk of landslides.

In Foggia, Apulia, a 59-year-old firefighter died due to bad weather. He was trying to help stranded drivers with a Fire Department vehicle, when he was swept away by a torrent.
