Ursula von der Leyen will hold talks on European support for Ukraine, winter preparations, defense and the progress of loans from the G7.

“My eighth visit to Kiev comes at a time when the heating season is about to start and Russia continues to target energy infrastructure,” von der Leyen wrote in X, stressing that she is in Ukraine to “talk about supporting Europe.” .

Yesterday Thursday, the president of the Commission announced that the EU will allocate 160 million euros to Ukraine from the revenues derived from the frozen Russian resources, in order for the country to face its emergency humanitarian needs this winter.

Russia is targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and has cut the country’s power generation capacity by about 9 gigawatts, according to von der Leyen.

The president of the European Commission noted yesterday that the EU aims to restore 15% of Ukraine’s energy needs this winter, which corresponds to 2.5 gigawatts, and will increase energy exports to Ukraine to provide another 2 gigawatts. .

During her visit to Kiev, von der Leyen will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials.
