The Turkish President clarified that at the UN meeting he will refer to “the steps that can be taken together against the genocide in Gaza and the policies of Israel”
For tNew York, where he will participate in its 79th meeting General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) and will have a series of contacts with heads of state and government, departed Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In remarks before his departure from Istanbul, the Turkish president launched a fresh attack on Israel, saying it behaves like a terrorist organization. “Unfortunately, Israel is once again attacking not as a state, but as a terrorist organization. Especially now, the digital attacks he made are a very clear proof of this fact. With this attack, Israel has shown openly and clearly that it has no sensibilities towards civilians and that it can use any means to achieve its hateful ambitions,” he said.
THE Recep Tayyip Erdogan he clarified that during his speech to the UN General Assembly, on September 24, he would refer in particular to “the steps that can be taken together against the genocide in Gaza and Israel’s aggressive policies”.
He noted that “the approaching winter season will further aggravate the difficulties faced by our brothers in Gaza. Hunger, thirst, lack of basic food and medical supplies worsen the situation in the field. The Israeli government is killing more than two million people in Gaza, which it has turned into a kind of Nazi extermination camp, either by bombs or by hunger and thirst.” The Turkish president also asked the international community, and especially Western countries, “to stop watching Israel’s murderous acts and take deterrent measures.”
He announced that in his speech to the General Assembly he would draw attention to the need for reform, particularly of the UN Security Council and the international financial system. “I will emphasize the need for a more comprehensive and efficient structure. I will declare Turkey’s support in this matter,” said Tayyip Erdogan.
For the normalization of Turkey’s relations with Syria and the possibility of a meeting with the Syrian president Bashar al-AssadMr. Erdogan noted that the Damascus government and opposition have “maintained a non-conflict stance in Syria” for some time. As he said, “this situation provides a favorable environment to open an effective door for a permanent solution. Millions of people outside Syria are waiting to return home. We have made an appeal on this matter and have expressed our willingness to meet with him Bashar al-Assad for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Syria. Now we are waiting for a response from the other side. We are ready for it. As two Muslim countries, we want to restore this unity and harmony as soon as possible. I believe that a new period in the relations between the two countries will hopefully begin as a result of such a meeting (ie between Erdogan and Assad).”
Finally, the Turkish president added that he will have a series of contacts in New York with leaders from various countries, and in particular regarding the possibility of his meeting with the American president, Joe Bidenclarified that no bilateral meeting has been planned yet, however, as he said, “we can and will meet on various occasions.”
Today’s Turkish press reports refer with similar wording to the transition of Mr. Erdogan in New York. The headlines highlight that his speech at the General Assembly on Tuesday 24 September will be “the voice of Gaza”.
The reports indicate that the Turkish president has also scheduled a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as part of his program of meetings with heads of state and government on the sidelines of the summit. In a related publication in the English language Daily Sabah it is also mentioned, among other things, that the Tayyip Erdogan will ask the international community to recognize the self-proclaimed “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” by establishing diplomatic, political and economic relations.
