For the first time since last year in Israel, everyone agrees: Sinwar’s “safe exile”, release of hostages, end of war in Gaza – Hamas is silent – US doubts
While negotiations for a truce in Gauze are at a standstill, Israel submitted a new proposal to the American side, effectively sidelining the “Biden framework”.
Specifically, the proposal provides for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages, without exception, at once and without conditions. It also calls for an end to the war in Gaza in exchange for his “safe exit”. Chinois and its entourage from Gaza and their “safe exile” to a third country to be agreed upon.
The proposal was submitted ten days ago by Brigadier General E.A. Gal Hirsch, who, returning to Israel, informed the hostages’ relatives of its contents.
Unexpected unanimity
Surprisingly, the proposal generated enthusiastic unanimity regarding the management of the Gaza front and indeed for the first time since the start of the war. Main opposition leader Yair Lapid called on the Netanyahu government to move forward with the proposal immediately “to save the hostages, before it’s too late.” Relatives of the hostages who criticize Benjamin Netanyahu and those who support him demonstrated in favor of the proposal.
In separate demonstrations last Thursday, in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem respectively, they called on Netanyahu to make a public commitment, announcing its content from the floor of the UN General Assembly when he travels to New York in the coming days.
As has been leaked from circles in the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem, this possibility is being considered very seriously. It is even said that representatives of the hostages’ relatives have been asked to attend the UN General Assembly hall at the time of Netanyahu’s speech as a show of support.
The US is doubtful
However, as reported by Israeli and American media, the White House is not enthusiastic about the possibility of implementing the new Israeli proposal, preferring to continue the negotiation efforts based on the original “Biden framework”, perhaps anticipating that in this way a comprehensive solution will be reached – package, which will close not only the Gaza front, but will prevent the extension of the war in Lebanon.
Hamas is silent
However, Hamas has not issued any statement so far. Asked to comment on the relevant Israeli publications, a low-ranking representative of the organization stated in a Lebanese media that with this move “Israel is throwing into the wastebasket a multi-month negotiation effort”, successfully avoiding to express an opinion on the content of the “secure exile” of Yahya Sinuar and other leaders of the organization in a foreign country.
