Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in New York, where the two leaders are in the framework of the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations.
The meeting took place at the “Turkey House” in the American metropolis where President Erdogan has settled and according to an announcement by the Directorate of Communication of the Turkish presidency, the agenda of the two leaders was dominated by Turkey-Germany bilateral relations, the “revitalization of Turkey’s integration process in the European Union’, and the Israel/Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.
The announcement of the Turkish presidency states that during the meeting, President Erdogan emphasized that “Turkey and Germany are two allies with deep-rooted relations and ties”, that “efforts continue to improve cooperation in all fields, exploiting and increasing opportunities” and that “Turkey is ready for steps that will benefit both countries”.
He also called it “necessary to revitalize the relations between Turkey and the European Union”, while he noted that “Turkey expects support from Germany to resolve as soon as possible the issue of visas” for the entry of Turkish citizens into the countries of the Schengen zone.
Turkey’s president also asserted that “Israel seeks to widen the cycle of violence,” “sees no harm in violating International Law and human rights,” and “Western countries’ support for Israel has led to unprecedented massacres in Gaza and made Israel even more insolent.”
