Zelensky called on allies to help Ukraine ‘stop terrorism’
Russia hit a high-rise apartment building in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Sunday in a cluster bomb attack, killing at least three people and injuring 22, with people feared trapped under the rubble, local authorities said.
“Russia is terrorizing the Kharkiv region with impunity… Direct attack on an apartment building“, said Ukrainian mediator Dmitry Lubinets, via a post on the Telegram application.
Images from the scene showed a hole in the building.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, after this Russian attack in Kharkiv, called from New York, the allies to help Ukraine “to stop terrorism”.
“In the UN General Assembly there is now a big debate about collective efforts for security and the future. But we just have to stop terrorism. Let’s have security. To have a futureZelensky said in a post on X during his visit to the US.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in a Telegram post that the apartment building had come under Russian attack at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
“It had almost been repaired, windows had been installed, insulation had been done and it was ready for the heating season. The enemy struck her a second timeTerekhov said.
Russia carried out attacks in at least four districts in the afternoon, Terekhov said, including the city’s most densely populated area.
Regional governor Oleh Sinyekhubov added on Telegram that several apartment buildings were significantly damaged.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, and the surrounding area are regularly subjected to Russian attacks. Russian troops are intensively using highly destructive guided bombs which Ukrainian air defenses are trying to intercept.
Russia routinely denies targeting civilians despite killing thousands during the more than two-and-a-half-year-old war.
